Reedbed refurbishment

This large timber yard has a reedbed that has been in place for a few years and is designed to treat the wastewater from the yard, which includes a lot of sawdust and liquor from the bark chippings.

The reedbed had ceased to function effectively as the waste water was bypassing the inlet to the reedbed and a lot of soil had accumulated close to the inlet area.

JPR re-engineered the inlet and divided the existing bed into 2 compartments. This will allow half the reedbed to be rested at any one time, which will enable soil mineralisation to take place.

The reedbed is large being half a hectare in size and is now, subject to the re-engineering, working very well at treating the waste water from this site.
