Underwater stone wall to create crayfish habitat

Project outline White clawed crayfish were identified at a mill redevelopment site on the outskirts of Nailsworth in Gloucestershire. Some habitat enhancement work was recommended to mitigate against any potential impact of the development.
Services provided

JPR Environmental installed about 20 linear metres of "dry" stone wall at the edge of the river to create lots of nooks and crannies for the crayfish to inhabit. The profile of the river could not be altered as per Environment Agency advice so the bank had to be reprofiled before installation to allow for the introduction of the stone. All works were undertaken without the use of machinery to minimise impact.
