Bank revetment in private garden on River Trent Erosion control project Client: Private individual 2006-7	Eroding bank of The River Trent before works commenced
Project outline	A 40m stretch of bank in the client's garden was eroding during times of flooding. Defoliation of the bank had further undermined stability. The varied profile over the stretch of bank required a tailored solution. JPR Environmental recommended the installation of coir rolls at the mean water level to prevent undercutting and willow spiling on the steeper areas of bank and planting on shallower stretches to create stability.
Services Provided	JPR Environmental drew up plans for the works proposed and applied for and gained consent from the Environment Agency for the works affecting watercourses. We cleared the affected area and installed the pre planted coir rolls along most of the affected area. Spiling was installed along a 20m stretch in 3 tiers each up to 0.5m high. The remaining areas were planted with a mixture of willow cuttings and marginal plants to root in and create stability. Access to the site was limited and the work was undertaken with no damage incurred to the client's lawn or planted borders.
Update	The river can rise to over 3m at the point of work. The reinforcements undertaken have already been tested in the heavy rain in the summer of 2007 - they have stood up very well to being completely flooded and have proved resistant to erosion.
