Slow Worm Fence Installation

Habitat Isolation Project

Client: RPS plc

2006

Slow worm fence to isolate habitat
Slow worm habitat isolation
Project outline

A site to the north of Cinderford School and Sports Centre is to be developed into an all-weather pitch for community use. The site is rough heath land and the Ecological Survey identified the presence of a significant number of slow worms. Mitigation required by the planning authorities called for isolation of the site and trapping off and translocation of as many of the slow worms as possible.

Services Provided

JPR Environmental installed about 0.5km of post and sheet fencing to surround the site. Access to the site was limited as it is surrounded by woodland and the ground is uneven with drainage channels running in different directions across the area. This necessitated the hand digging of trenches in some areas and limited the use of machinery to a walk behind trencher for the remainder.
