JPR Environmental has extensive experience on projects requiring newt and slow worm fencing to isolate sites for trapping and translocation in preparation for development. We cover all stages of habitat isolation projects from marking out, the installation of fence and traps, through on-going fence maintenance, to final removal. We have worked on large and small sites and are particularly experienced on problematic sites with difficult ground conditions and restricted access.

JPR can offer all forms of exclusion fencing from standard sheet and post, semi-permanent panels for sites with heavy machine traffic or public access, to our own system of truly permanent galvanised steel fencing. On more complex sites, we will work with the ecologist to define and install the most appropriate system for the prevailing conditions to minimise potential damage and maintenance and ensure compliance with the licensing requirements. We also install pitfall traps and pedestrian and vehicle access gates to aid trapping and ensure the site is “newt-proofed”.

We can offer support for ecologists during trapping periods by taking responsibility for a proportion of the visits and can be on hand to organise and undertake destructive searches if required.

If the mitigation plan specifies habitat enhancement, JPR Environmental can execute these plans to specification, including pond creation and restoration, hibernacula construction, planting and vegetation management.
