An isolated public toilet block at WWT Slimbridge has the waste water running into a septic tank. A source of water was needed to keep a nearby wetland area damper for more of the year. This water was to be sourced from the septic tanks by being pumped into two parallel overland flow reedbeds to treat it, reducing the biological oxygen demand. The treated water can then be used in the Slimbridge grounds water system.
