JPR has taken on the maintenance of this reedbed, which is now 12 years old.

The reedbed was originally designed to treat the wastewater from the visitor centre at Slimbridge
that has upwards of 2,000 visitors per day. It was suffering from a number of issues including
short-circuiting and water ponding (standing water) on the main filter bed.

JPR undertakes weekly visits to check that all pumps and pipes are functioning properly with the required flow. We also manage the vegetation both within and around the reedbeds.

Regular maintenance of reedbeds is significant in prolonging the life of the reedbed and in making
it more effective and delaying the need for refurbishment
