Tree & Newt Protection

Client: Crest Nicholson

Location: Bristol

Service: Habitat Restoration

Project Outline:

The aim for this project was to instal over 2,000m of tree protection fencing that was compliant with BS5837.

Installation of temporary and semi-permanent newt fencing

JPR have been working on this Crest Nicholson site in Bristol since 2012 when we installed 7,500m of great crested newt fencing.

Tree protection fencing:

We also installed over 2,000m of tree protection fencing, compliant with BS5837, which made up the bulk of the site security fencing needs. Where there was no tree protection fencing but there was a need for site security fencing, we were able to install heras fencing.

Benefits to the client:

Putting up semi-permanent fencing defines the site boundary for the client and is designed to last for the duration of their site works. The temporary or drift fencing splits the site into compartments and means that works can get underway on different areas of the site at different times. In Harry Stoke, some areas had 30 days of trapping, some 45 and some 60 depending on the likelihood of Great Crested Newts being present.

This meant that the client could start works more quickly in some areas, enabling them to keep to their work schedules. JPR can be responsive to what clients need by installing, removing, maintaining and re-siting newt fencing depending on the demands of the client whilst keeping to the licensing requirements of the local planning authority and Natural England.
